FTA Registered Tax Agent · Registered across all UAE free zones

You have 20 days to file. Do you know what you actually owe?

If your financial year ended 31 December 2025, your corporate tax return and your payment are both due on 30 September 2026. Not one, then the other. Both. On the same day. And the FTA doesn't hand out extensions because your bookkeeping ran late.

ebs files as your appointed tax agent — computation, reliefs, elections, EmaraTax submission. Last year we found one client a foreign tax credit their previous accountant had missed. It reduced their bill by AED 1.6 million.

Your accountant said "we'll handle it." That was in June.

It's September. The trial balance still isn't final. Nobody has told you whether you qualify for Small Business Relief, whether your free zone income is genuinely qualifying, or what the number at the bottom is going to be.

And here's the part that stings: the return isn't late because the tax is complicated. It's late because the books weren't ready.

Books that can't support a return

The computation starts from your financial statements. Open reconciliations and unposted year-end journals don't slow the return down. They stop it.

A relief you can't claim back

Small Business Relief has to be actively elected in the return. Submit without it and you can't retroactively add it for that period. It's also only available for tax periods ending on or before 31 December 2026.

Free zone status you assumed you had

Qualifying Free Zone Person status gets re-tested every single period. One material non-qualifying revenue line can put the whole period at risk. Nobody checks this until the FTA does.

Foreign tax you already paid — and are about to pay again

If your business paid tax abroad on income that's also taxable here, you may be entitled to a credit against your UAE liability. It doesn't apply itself. Somebody has to find it and claim it.

Case in point

"We were ready to pay it. ebs looked at the same numbers and found AED 1.6 million we didn't owe."

The client had paid tax overseas on income that was also within the UAE corporate tax net. A foreign tax credit was available against their UAE liability — and nobody had claimed it.

Outcomes depend on each client's circumstances. Foreign tax credit relief is available only where specific conditions are met.

Nobody changes accountants for fun. Here's what finally does it.

Switching mid-year feels like more work than staying put. Which is exactly why most businesses wait until something breaks. These are the five things clients tell us pushed them over the line.

Their accountant could advise, but couldn't file.

Plenty of firms will tell you what your corporate tax position is. Far fewer are registered with the Federal Tax Authority to actually file on your behalf and correspond with the FTA as your appointed agent.

ebs is an FTA registered tax agent. That means when something needs answering, we answer it. You're not the intermediary between your accountant and the regulator.

The switch trigger: an FTA query lands and their accountant says "you'll need to respond to this."

Nobody had checked whether their free zone status still held.

DMCC, JAFZA, DAFZA, DIFC, IFZA, RAKEZ, SAIF Zone, Meydan, DSO, DWC — ebs is registered and approved across the UAE's free zones, and QFZP status gets tested against your actual revenue lines every period. Not assumed from your licence.

The businesses that come to us have usually been told "you're in a free zone, so you're at 0%." That's not how it works, and finding out from the FTA is the expensive way to learn it.

The switch trigger: a big mainland invoice, and a sudden question about whether the whole period is affected.

Money was being left on the table.

Foreign tax credits. Small Business Relief elections. Participation exemption. Tax group formation. Loss transfers. Every one of these has to be identified, tested, and actively claimed in the return.

An accountant processing your return in volume won't go looking. Our client's AED 1.6 million credit sat in the same set of accounts their previous firm had already reviewed.

The switch trigger: a peer in the same industry paying visibly less tax on similar numbers.

Deadline season kept becoming a crisis.

Small firms run out of capacity in September. Yours becomes the file that gets started last.

ebs runs 60+ finance professionals with Big Four audit backgrounds. Every return goes through a second-partner review before submission. Not because it's a nice touch — because a return filed wrong is harder to fix than a return filed late.

The switch trigger: the second year in a row of chasing their accountant through the last week of September.

The audit and the tax return were being prepared by strangers.

When your auditor and your tax agent are different firms, you become the messenger. Numbers get restated. Questions get asked twice. Timelines stretch.

ebs is an approved auditor and an FTA registered tax agent. Financial statements and corporate tax return, prepared by people in the same building who talk to each other.

The switch trigger: an audit adjustment landing after the tax computation was already built.

Switching is less painful than you think.

Send us your trade licence, EmaraTax access, and last filed return. We handle the handover with your outgoing accountant, including the professional clearance letter. Most clients spend under an hour on the transition.

And a note on the metric that matters: our client retention rate is over 95%. Retention is the only satisfaction number that can't be manufactured — people either stay or they don't.

FAQ

Can you file, or do you just advise?
We file. ebs is an FTA registered tax agent, which means we submit through EmaraTax on your behalf and can deal with the FTA as your appointed representative.
We're in a free zone at 0%. Do we still file?
Yes. Every free zone entity registers and files annually, including Qualifying Free Zone Persons. The 0% rate applies to qualifying income — it doesn't remove the filing obligation.
We made a loss. Do we still file?
Yes. And a loss year is exactly when you want the return prepared properly, so the loss is correctly available to carry forward.
Can the FTA give us an extension?
Not routinely. A request can be made through EmaraTax before the original deadline with a reasonable excuse, but an extension to file doesn't necessarily extend the time to pay — interest can still run on the amount outstanding.
We registered late. Is the AED 10,000 penalty recoverable?
There's a waiver available where the first return is filed within seven months of the end of the first tax period, rather than the usual nine. Send us your dates and we'll assess your position.
What is a foreign tax credit?
If your business paid tax outside the UAE on income that's also taxable here, you may be able to credit that foreign tax against your UAE liability, subject to conditions and caps. It has to be identified and claimed in the return.
Our books are behind. Is it too late?
Not necessarily, but it's time-sensitive. Backlog accounting is core work for us and we run it alongside return preparation. Every day you wait makes the deadline tighter.
How much?
Depends on structure, transaction volume, and the state of your records. The review is free and you get a fixed quote before any work starts. No hourly surprises.
Is switching accountants mid-year a problem?
No. We handle the handover and the professional clearance letter with your outgoing firm. Most clients spend under an hour on it.

The deadline won't move. Your position still can.

Send us your trade licence and last set of accounts. Within one working day you'll have your exact deadline, a list of what's outstanding, and a fixed fee.
